Islandwide dormitory occupancy slips to 97.1% in H2 2025

Occupancy levels have remained healthy since the second half of 2022.

Average islandwide occupancy at worker dormitories stood at 97.1% in the second half (H2) of 2025, down 1.2 percentage points from 98.3% in the first half (H1), according to a joint report by Dormitory Association of Singapore Limited and Knight Frank Singapore.

Occupancy levels have remained healthy since the second half of 2022, although pressure on beds eased throughout 2025 as demand moderated, the report said.

The marine shipyard and process industries exercised greater caution amidst geopolitical disruptions and global economic uncertainty.

The east and west zones remained almost full in H2 2025, with occupancy levels of 98.3% and 99.0%, respectively.

More availability was recorded in the central zone, where occupancy fell from 97.2% in H1 2025 to 94.5% in H2 2025, contributing to an easing in demand pressure reflected in fewer wait-listed workers for available beds.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
