Singapore has second-highest share of AI-driven sellers
Entrepreneurs use AI in at least 29% of their operations.
In Singapore, 39% of sellers report using artificial intelligence (AI) across their business functions, slightly above the regional average, according to a new report by eCommerce platform Lazada in partnership with Kantar.
The country also has one of the highest shares of “AI Adepts”—sellers who use AI in at least 80% of their operations—at 29%, just behind Thailand (30%).
It found that whilst 68% of sellers across Southeast Asia are aware of AI, actual adoption lags behind perception—sellers believe AI is integrated into 47% of their business operations, but actual usage stands at 37%.
Whilst 89% of sellers across the region say AI improves productivity, 61% remain unsure about its overall usefulness.
Additionally, 93% believe AI will bring long-term cost savings, but 64% cite high implementation costs and time requirements as key barriers.
Although 93% of sellers agree that upskilling the workforce is essential to fully leverage AI, 75% say their employees still prefer using familiar, manual tools over new AI systems.
The report, Bridging the AI Gap: Online Seller Perceptions and Adoption Trends in Southeast Asia, surveyed 1,214 online sellers across six Southeast Asian countries, including 200 from Singapore.
