Maersk expands Asia Pacific logistic with $200m automated distribution centre

The facility created 500 automation and digital jobs.

A.P. Moller – Maersk opened World Gateway II, a 1.1-million-square-foot automated distribution centre in Singapore, to expand contract logistics and e-commerce operations across Asia Pacific, according to a press release.

The facility, 16.8 kilometres from Tuas Mega Port and 42.6 km from Changi Airport, handles B2B and B2C fulfilment for lifestyle, retail, and technology companies.

Maersk invested $200m in the site, which has reached 70% occupancy and created 500 jobs in digitalisation and automation.

The warehouse uses a Multi-Shuttle System, Automated Storage and Retrieval System, and Autonomous Case-handling Robots to reduce manual handling and lead times.

It features 11-metre clear heights, rooftop container parking, and holds LEED Platinum and Green Mark Platinum certifications, with solar panels and smart LED lighting lowering energy use.

The site also functions as a customs-bonded warehouse, deferring Goods and Services Tax, the press release said.

Vincent Clerc, Chief Executive Officer of Maersk, said the facility marks a milestone for the company’s logistics business and enhances resilience for customers.

Chang Kee Seng, Head of Maersk Contract Logistics Asia Pacific, noted that the scale and automation allow access to luxury fashion markets.

Png Cheong Boon, Chairman of EDB, said the investment creates jobs and strengthens the logistics workforce.

Ang Wee Keong, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, highlighted port connectivity as a means for businesses to optimise supply chains.

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
