Up the ante: SingTel rolls out 300mbps 4G service

But don’t get too excited yet.

SingTel subscribers can now look forward to live 4G service with data speeds of up to 300Mbps, but full nationwide coverage won’t be until end of 2015.

The telecom giant unveiled its newest offering on Wednesday. The first live site at Singapore Expo is now ready for service, and more than half of the island will be covered by the end of the year.

All SingTel 4G customers with compatible devices will be able to enjoy the 300Mbps service at no additional charge. The first compatible device, the Huawei E5786 MiFi dongle, will be available from SingTel in mid-July. Smartphones and tablets are expected to be available soon after.

SingTel has also announced that its 4G roaming coverage is now available in China. The service is currently available for iPhone 5S and 5C smartphones, which are the only handsets that are compatible with the 4G mobile frequencies used by China Mobile. Other handsets will be supported in the coming months.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
