Singapore's 10-year infocomm media plan unveiled

Here are its 5 strategies.

According to a release, the Infocom Media Masterplan Steering Committee has released a consultation document that sets the vision for the Infocomm and Media (ICM) sectors until 2025.

The document features preliminary ideas that are being considered for the Infocomm Media Masterplan that will be finalised in 2015. These ideas were developed along five broad strategies including establishing agile ICM infrastructure, building strategic ICM sectors, growing and retaining passionate ICM human capital with required skills, enabling people and businesses to harness the power of ICM, and building an R&D ecosystem that supports ICM innovation and commercialisation.

The private sector led committee proposed to create a heterogeneous network to provide seamless transitions to the best available network in range. They also plan to boost the start-up scene where Singapore-based ICM start-ups can tap on the expertise, international connections and capital of a wide network of private investors. Additionally, they plan to create data marketplace where private and public sector datasets are available to help generate new applications, products and services.

Mr Koh Boon Hwee, Chairman of the Infocomm Media Masterplan Steering Committee said, “These ideas represent potential new and bold directions for the ICM sectors. As such, we want to engage the industry and public to discuss viable business models and approaches that can support the ideas.

These ideas are preliminary and not exhaustive - we welcome other views and ideas to grow our infocomm and media industry and how we can further make use of ICM as an enabler for other sectors.”

The Infocomm Media Masterplan Steering Committee is planning a series of consultations with the industry and public from April to August 2014. More information on the consultation sessions will be available at a later date on the Masterplan website.

The Masterplan report is expected to complete in mid-2015.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
