Grab and WeRide launch first public autonomous ride service

Punggol pilot offers free rides.

Grab and WeRide have launched Singapore’s first autonomous public ride service in Punggol, marking the first autonomous passenger service deployed in a residential estate.

The Ai.R service began public operations on 1 April and uses WeRide’s GXR and Robobus vehicle models.

The partners said the fleet had already served more than 1,000 trial riders and logged over 30,000km of autonomous mileage since January.

The service operates on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with riders able to choose between two full shuttle routes and a 20-minute mini route. Rides will remain free until commercial service begins in mid-2026.

Grab and WeRide said the launch has also created new roles for driver-partners, including Safety Operator and Remote Operator. They said 14 Grab driver-partners have completed training to become certified Safety Operators, with more undergoing training and assessments.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
