Datasonic introduces efficiency into security with their new e-gate
The ICT solution provider took home the Cybersecurity - Non-profit or Government Organizations win at the Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2022.
Digital and cybersecurity applications in the real world hold endless values, whether it be securing a location or facility, or making sure that databases cannot be breached. Datasonic introduced their new e-gate, and in doing so, managed to win the Cybersecurity - Non-profit or Government Organizations Award at the Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2022.
The awards programme recognises breakthroughs and innovations in the tech industry of Malaysia, and Datasonic’s e-gate sets them apart from their competition thanks to a myriad of attributes and variations.
Datasonic has been engaged in technological solutions as a provider at Malaysia’s borderline, ensuring safety and security since 2017. Their e-gate serves as a self-service automatic border control system, blending together the latest technologies and innovations in hardware and multi-modal biometric matching software, producing more secure and efficient processing of travellers.
The e-gate is loaded with features designed for both security and speed, with such features including a two-step verification using a traveller’s e-passport and biometrics (facial, fingerprint, iris) verification, speeding up queues for clearance at border checkpoints. Other features include enhanced security and prevention of identity theft, a central monitoring system for the supervision of support personnel coordination, data analysis and reporting software to identify trends and potential needs in traffic flow, and anti-fraud detection.
Utilising facial recognition technology allows the Datasonic e-gate to carry out identity authentication aided with fingerprint recognition, an optimised in-house facial recognition engine specialising in Malaysian and ASEAN-centric faces has proven to have higher accuracy in face analysis and comparison compared to other market players. This system is integrated with Liveness Detection, protecting data and enhancing the trustworthiness of the security system against spoofing.
Datasonic also developed numerous variations for their e-gate in order to cater to different needs of different clients and industries with the variations being the Gen-1, which boasts a 15 second clearance time for travellers, the Gen-2, which introduces easy passport reading features, the GR-1000, which supports a combination of biometric modalities for travellers, the KF-20, and the MG 2000, which supports various security documents like identity cards, passports, and multimodal biometrics. Each variation has its own edge over the others, such as Gen-2’s faster clearance process of 5 seconds compared to the Gen-1 or the KF-20’s bidirectional configuration that allows itself to be more flexible than other variants.
The in-house facial and fingerprint recognition engine was built whilst adopting the world’s first-tier biometric product, improving its performance to better cater to a real-life environment.
Its evaluation criteria and methodology are all data-driven, with the e-gate always undergoing fine-tuning as field statistics come in to provide insight into its performance.
With a strong foundation and over two decades of experience in the industry, Datasonic continues to establish itself as a pioneer and spearhead in the industry with its capabilities and offerings. The company aims to penetrate new markets, both locally and overseas with their range of large-scale, integrated, higher-value products and software services that specialise in security.
