Which sectors do Singaporeans trust the most?
The automotive industry was the least trusted sector.
A survey showed that Singaporeans only trusted the government service sector the most with regards to handling personal data, according to Thales.
The government sector was the only sector which garnered a consumer trust score of over 50%, ranking highest at 67%. This was followed by banking at 49% and healthcare at 41%.
The automotive sector ranked the lowest, with just 2% of consumers viewing it as trustworthy, Thales’ 2025 Digital Trust Index – Consumer Edition, showed.
The decline in trust coincides with rising data breaches, as 22% of Singapore consumers reported being informed that their personal data was compromised in the past year, compared to 19% globally.
In response, 85% of consumers in Singapore have abandoned brands over data privacy concerns.
Consumer sentiment also highlights frustration over data security responsibilities.
Whilst 88% of Singapore consumers expect data privacy rights from online companies, 62% feel that too much of the burden falls on them.
Additionally, 38% only share personal data because it is required to access services, rather than due to trust in the organisation.
Despite scepticism, consumers remain open to improved security measures.
Around 75% of Singapore respondents said their confidence in brands would increase if they adopted technologies such as passwordless authentication, biometrics, multifactor authentication, and AI-driven security measures.
John Tolbert, director of Cybersecurity Research at KuppingerCole Analysts, stated that declining trust is preventable and that companies should prioritise security solutions.
“Deploying modern Customer Identity Access Management (CIAM), Fraud Reduction Intelligence Platforms (FRIP), GenAI, and data privacy protection solutions properly, with optimising the customer journey as the primary design principle, will lead to better business and consumer outcomes,” Tolbert said.
