F&B sales stall in May
Restaurants grew, but declines elsewhere kept overall turnover unchanged.
Singapore's food and beverage (F&B) services sales were unchanged in May from a year earlier after edging up 0.1% in April, according to the Singapore Department of Statistics (SingStat).
On a seasonally adjusted basis, F&B sales declined 0.6% from April.
Total F&B sales were estimated at $1.7b in May, with online transactions accounting for 19.8% of sales. This is slightly below the 19.9% recorded in April.
Restaurants posted 1.8% year-on-year growth, whilst fast food outlets and food caterers recorded increases of 2.6% and 1.9%, respectively.
Food courts and other eating places registered the largest decline, with sales falling 5.3% from a year earlier whilst café sales also slipped 0.5%.
Compared with April, seasonally adjusted sales fell across most segments.
Fast food outlets declined 3.7%, food caterers fell 2.8%, and food courts and other eating places slipped 1.1% with restaurants and cafés the only segments to record monthly growth.
