Services producer prices split in Q4 as logistics stays uneven

Warehousing and tech-linked services rose, whilst freight remained weak.

Services producer prices showed a mixed picture in the fourth quarter, with firmer pricing in warehousing, telecommunications, tech-related services, and accounting offset by continued weakness across parts of the transport and logistics chain, according to the Department of Statistics.

The agency said sea freight transport rose 4.0% QoQ in Q4 2025, reversing a decline in the previous quarter, whilst freight forwarding increased 0.5%, telecommunications rose 0.4%, computer consultancy and information services gained 0.3%, warehousing and storage edged up 0.2%, and accounting services also rose 0.2%.

Postal and courier fell 0.5%, whilst cargo handling was flat.

On a year-on-year basis, warehousing and storage posted the strongest increase at 3.6%, followed by postal and courier at 3.4%, telecommunications at 1.5%, and both computer consultancy and information services and cargo handling at 1.1%.

Accounting services fell 0.6%, whilst freight forwarding dropped 4.6% and sea freight transport declined 8.1%.

By industry, sea freight transport saw the sharpest quarterly rebound, driven mainly by an 11.2% jump in dry bulk freight transport, but the sector still recorded the biggest annual decline at 12.7% in 2025.

The agency attributed the full-year fall to vessel overcapacity, shifting trade patterns linked to geopolitical tensions, and the rerouting of shipping lanes.

Freight forwarding also recovered on the quarter, helped by gains in sea and land freight forwarding, but remained under pressure on a broader basis.

The index fell 4.6% from a year earlier in the fourth quarter and declined 1.7% for the full year, reflecting continued softness in sea and air freight forwarding.

Warehousing and storage remained the strongest-performing segment over the year. The index rose 4.3% in 2025 after a 3.7% increase in 2024, with dangerous goods storage being a key driver.

Telecommunications services rose 0.7% for the year, supported by wired and wireless services, whilst computer consultancy and information services climbed 2.0% on higher charges for programming, consultancy, data analytics, hosting, and cloud-related activities.

Postal and courier prices fell from the previous quarter as international postal and courier prices declined, but the sector still rose 3.4% from a year earlier and 1.2% for the full year.

Cargo handling was unchanged on the quarter, though it rose 1.1% YoY and 0.1% for 2025. Accounting services edged up on the quarter, slipped 0.6% from a year earlier, but still posted a 0.5% annual increase.
