Shangri-La Hotel unveils famous Confucius culinary journey

According to a release, Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore is offering diners a rare opportunity to experience Qufu’s famed Confucius culinary journey from 18 to 24 January 2013 at Shang Palace.

Unique in style, the cuisine of Confucius’ family (kong fu) features creative presentations of skillfully combined ingredients that express the four most important elements in the art of Chinese cooking: colour, aroma, flavour and texture.

A team of guest chefs from Qufu will recreate the exquisite Kong family cuisine using authentic recipes.Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is showcasing the Kong family cuisine at six hotels in January and February to celebrate the upcoming opening of Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu in early 2013.

Qufu, located in Shandong Province in mainland China, is the birthplace of the famous Chinese philosopher, Confucius. Many of Confucius’ philosophies have spread over time and, under his descendants the Kong family, Qufu cuisine has equally flourished.

The “Kong Family Cuisine Menu” at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore will feature 25 à la carte menu items including an assortment of cold and hot dishes, soups and desserts, priced between S$8++ and S$78++. Set menus are also available.

To prepare the elaborate cuisine, three Lu chefs from the new Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu will journey to Singapore ahead of the hotel’s opening in 2013. Their specially created “Kong Family Cuisine Menu” embraces tradition with menu items such as Kong Mansion’s “Six Art” Cold Appetisers (spiced beef shanks; sea whelk jelly salad; scallops and lettuce salad; jelly fish salad; spiced duck tongues; and baby celery with sesame and olive oil) and Lu Wall’s Hidden Collection (prawn roll wrapped in crispy vermicelli) and auspicious sounding dishes such as Wisdom Frees Perplexity (braised pork ribs stuffed with spring onion stalk) and Confucius “Four Supreme Bowls” – Fortune, Prosperity, Longevity and Happiness (braised chicken, braised fish, braised pork and meat roll of minced chicken breast and prawns wrapped with seaweed).

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts will open Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu in early 2013. Located in Qufu’s city centre, the 325-room hotel will be the first international property operating in the hometown of famous Chinese philosopher Confucius, who was born in 551 BC.

The hotel is within walking distance to the Temple of Confucius – a UNESCO world heritage site – and a 20-minute drive to the Qufu high-speed train station.
