EASB Nursing students receive Deloitte Award

The three awardess will receive $1,000 each, which was contributed by Deloitte Southeast Asia.

For the first time this year, the ‘Deloitte Award’ will be presented to outstanding students of the East Asia Institute of Management (EASB) in Singapore, in recognition of their contribution to the community and supporting tertiary education in the health science industry.

Three awardees from the EASB Allied Health Sciences have been selected from a pool of students from the graduating class of Bachelor of Science in Professional Practice - Nursing program jointly offered by EASB and Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, to receive this prestigious award along with a monetary reward of $1,000.00 each, which was contributed by Deloitte Southeast Asia, the local member firm which is part of the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited network of professional services firms.

As Singapore works towards being the medical hub of Southeast Asia, local medical facilities are expecting to see a spike in the numbers of both local and regional patients. This program was created specifically to cater to the increasing demand for highly qualified nurses for the Singapore Healthcare industry.

This Bachelor’s degree program lasts 24 months and is fully accredited by the Singapore Nursing Board. Prospective allied health sciences students can also look forward to new programs such as Biomedical science, Physiotherapy and Psychology at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels in the months to come.

The three students selected for the Deloitte Award were chosen for portraying the qualities of healthcare professionals both academically and as individuals by excelling on academic grades, class active participation (CAP), great presentation skills, attendance, punctuality and possessing a positive attitude towards learning.

Senior Nursing Administrators from both Singapore General Hospital and Changi General Hospital will be present at the ceremony to congratulate the awardees, who are also full-time registered nurses of the SingHealth group.

EASB sees this event as a tremendous reward and a great form of recognition for both current and future students who work hard to achieve their learning outcome, motivating them even further to try their hardest to succeed. Deloitte and EASB have both expressed an interest in making this an annual event as EASB strives to interest more Singaporeans to seek a career in the healthcare industry.

The degree provides a competitive edge to local nursing diploma students by allowing them to study part time while working; due to the continuing growth of the healthcare industry regionally and globally, EASB believes such career opportunities for Singaporeans will be in abundance.

The award ceremony will be officiated by Dr. Tan Jing Hee, Executive Director & Chairman, Academic Board, East Asia Institute of Management (EASB) and Janson Yap, Regional Industry Leader for Life Sciences and Health Care for Deloitte Southeast Asia.

It will take place at East Asia Institute of Management Balestier Campus, 9 Ah Hood Road, Singapore 329975, 2nd June 2011, Thursday, 10am.
