Singaporeans expect AI to improve security despite privacy concerns: survey

40% worry about data handling by companies, and 55% fear its misuse.

Despite concerns about data privacy, 44% of Singaporeans say they expect AI smart devices to provide enhanced security and stronger data privacy controls.

In a report, Telenor Asia said citizens recognise AI's potential to create a smarter and safer life, with over half of respondents believing AI integration will positively impact their daily mobile use.

Meanwhile, one in three respondents say monitoring health and fitness through AI-integrated apps and devices made their lives smarter, with older generations more likely to agree.

AI is also seen as a catalyst for positive change in Singapore, with eight in ten believing that it will have a positive impact on the economy in key areas such as education, transportation and
crime prediction/prevention.

Personal data privacy is a significant concern in Singapore, with 40% of respondents worrying about how companies handle their personal information and 55% citing misuse of personal data as their primary concern with AI-integrated devices.

Job security continues to be a concern amongst Gen X and Baby Boomers, whilst six in ten Gen Zs and millennials remain optimistic about AI's impact on their future jobs.

Moreover, enthusiasm for AI continues to grow in Singapore, rising by 10% in the last two years, reaching 47% in 2024, the highest in Southeast Asia.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
