CDL fails bid to take Millennium & Copthorne Hotels private

This is despite raising its offer from $1.76 to $2.20 per share.

CDL Hotels Holdings New Zealand Limited (CDLHH NZ), a subsidiary of City Developments Limited (CDL), has failed in its takeover bid for Millennium & Copthorne Hotels New Zealand Limited (MCK) after not reaching the required 90% threshold for a full takeover.

According to a bourse filing, CDLHH NZ only received an additional 8.054% acceptances in, taking its total holding in MCK shares to 83.915%.

This was after the group increased its takeover offer for MCK to $2.20 (NZ$2.80) per share, up from its initial January bid of $1.76 (NZ$2.25).

CDLHH NZ said will not make another takeover offer under the NZ Takeovers Code for the MCK Shares for at least nine months from 22 April 2025.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
