Singapore captures over half of seed deals in SEA

Singaporean investors account for 22% of all seed funding participation.

Over half of seed deals (54%) in Southeast Asia are in Singapore, driven by favourable policies for entrepreneurs, according to the First Cheque Report 2024 by Jungle Ventures.

The report identified that much of this capital supports companies targeting markets outside of Singapore but are registered or operating within its borders.

Meanwhile, the report also noted that the majority of Seed investments are made by foreign investors. However, 22% of all seed involvements were notably from Singapore investors. This excludes angel investors like high net worth individuals.

Following second is Indonesia at 19.2%, however, the report notes that other SEA markets are closing in

The report notes that following exponential growth in 2021 to 2022, the seed investment market has stabilised as both deal count and funding amount have tapered since the peak years of 2021-2022 where invested capital reached US$1.29b and overall deal count reached 551. 2023 remained strong, with deal counts and invested capital levels notably higher than pre-exponential growth periods.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
