SeaLead COO Cho Kit Wei steps up as CEO amidst softer global shipping demand

The 20-year veteran takes over on 2 March to navigate weaker volumes and global trade swings.

SeaLead has appointed Cho Kit Wei as its new CEO, effective 2 March 2026. Cho, who has been the company’s COO since 2021, brings more than 20 years of experience in the shipping industry, the company said in a statement.

Before SeaLead, Cho led teams at Simatech Shipping and Pendulum Express Lines, developing broad experience in global shipping operations.

In comments provided to SeaLead, Cho said he plans to leverage the company’s existing capabilities to navigate a container shipping market experiencing softer demand and shifting trade patterns.

“While challenges exist, there are opportunities to differentiate through service quality and operational excellence,” he said, adding that the focus will be on advancing SeaLead’s growth strategy, strengthening its global position, and delivering value to customers and partners.

SeaLead also expressed appreciation for outgoing CEO Suleyman Avci, noting that the leadership transition will maintain continuity and build on the foundation established under his tenure.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
