Keppel 25-year fibre deal links Singapore-US via Bifrost cable
The system forms the core of Keppel’s integrated connectivity platform.
Keppel Ltd. has entered a binding 25-year agreement with an undisclosed global telecommunications company, granting an indefeasible right of use (IRU) of a fibre pair on its Bifrost Cable System (Bifrost), with the terms expected to be finalised in the second quarter of 2026.
Bifrost is a 20,000 km subsea cable system—the world’s first to directly link Singapore to the west coast of the US via Indonesia.
It offers a round-trip latency of under 165 milliseconds, up to 10 milliseconds faster than many existing systems, whilst adding more than 240 Tbps of total capacity across the Pacific.
With its ready-for-service status in October 2025 and the start of commercial traffic flow in December 2025, the system has delivered about 20% more traffic capacity than originally anticipated, the press release said.
Keppel’s fibre pairs in Bifrost are jointly owned by Keppel and its private fund co-investors through a 40:60 joint venture.
The system is part of the company’s end-to-end connectivity ecosystem, spanning power, off-grid solutions, green energy, cooling, subsea cable connectivity, and data centre solutions.
“As a critical subsea cable charting a new route across the Pacific, Bifrost underscores Keppel’s track record as a global asset manager and operator with the ability to originate, develop and operate future-ready infrastructure that not only supports the next phase of digital and AI-driven growth but also delivers strong returns to our investors,” said Manjot Singh Mann, CEO, Connectivity, Keppel.
